"Ready for Anything, Prepared for Nothing" - Alexander Technique for Actors
Curious about the Alexander Technique? Wondering what it can do for you? The quote "Ready for anything, prepared for nothing" comes from Alexander teacher Marie Françoise. Itsays a lot about what you'll learn in this class, both on stage and in everyday life. Come play games, learn a bit about how your body works and how to work it, and get immersed in ideas to help you with grounding and sensing the world around you. During these four weeks, students will begin the process of learning to be present in their daily lives - both physically AND mentally. Learn how choice (yes, you always have one!) can come into every situation of your day.
Many actors already know the benefit of using Alexander Technique to stay grounded and deliver lines with conviction and clarity. Alexander Technique is also used in examining your own approach to using your body (as well as your mind) in acting. Got a physically demanding role? Using AT will help you change your stature healthily to suit the part. As a psycho-physical educational method, Alexander Technique helps you to be more embodied on stage and off. Camera actors also benefit greatly from this approach. Alexander Classes are a great way to introduce yourself to the Technique and to learn more about your own physical use in just a few short weeks.
Gentle hands on will guide the students into increased awareness, and homework will be given for helping to improve awareness outside of class. Please come with a monologue ready.
