Alexander Technique Classes
In my new location, I don't currently have the ability to teach actors classes. If this changes I will make an announcement. If you'd like to hire me to come to your location, please contact me to discuss this possibility.
Introduction to Alexander Technique for Actors - The Art of Presence
A sense of presence, of being in the now, is essential for successfully being with an audience. All performers, whether actors, musicians, or dancers , wish for this kind of connection. The truly great performers understand how to get it - how to "be with" rather than "be in front of" an audience. Alexander Technique is a tool that can help you get there, and my classes will show you how.
Many actors already know the benefit of using Alexander Technique to stay grounded and deliver lines with conviction and clarity. Alexander Technique is also used in examining your own approach to using your body (as well as your mind) in acting. Got a physically demanding role? Using AT will help you change your stature healthily to suit the part. As a psycho-physical educational method, Alexander Technique helps you to be more embodied on stage and off. Camera actors also benefit greatly from this approach. Alexander Classes are a great way to introduce yourself to the Technique and to learn more about your own physical use in just a few short weeks.
Come play games, learn a bit about how your body works and how to work it, and get immersed in ideas to help you with grounding and sensing the world around you. Gentle hands on will guide the students into increased awareness, and homework will be given for helping to improve awareness outside of class. Please come with a monologue ready.

CLASS FAQs:
What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a method that works to change movement habits in our everyday activities. It is a simple and practical method for improving ease and freedom of movement, balance, support and coordination. The technique teaches the use of the appropriate amount of effort for a particular activity, giving you more energy for all your activities. It is not a series of treatments or exercises, but rather a re-education of the mind and body.

I'm not an actor, or a musician, or even involved in the arts. Why should I take your classes?
Alexander Technique is just as beneficial to those who sit at a computer a large portion of the day, or drive a car, or who are simply getting older and finding more difficulty enjoying their favorite activities. Robbin specializes in working with people
"in activity", so that you find new ways to get rid our your old habits that have been making you uncomfortable and making things more difficult for you. For seniors, AT can help restore your sense of balance and security in both walking and standing.
When does the next class series start?
Robbin is offering an daytime class series, "Ready for Anything, Prepared for Nothing" on 4 Thursdays in March, beginning March 12 and ending on April 2. A new series of the actor's class will begin again in mid-April - check back in late March to pre-register.
When do I sign up?
If you sign up for my newsletter now, you'll be among the first to know it's time to register. Use the link below to sign up! BUT, registration for this class series is open NOW. Click the link above and pre-register anytime before March 12.
Will classes be in the daytime, or during the evening?
Well, that's up to you! Send me a note and indicate when would be the best day and time for you. I work on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays each week. When I hear from interested students, it helps me pick a day and time that work for the majority of interested people. Please send me a note on the form below and I will make a list of interested people to contact when classes form. I've picked Thursday lunchtime for this new class series, but I'm always open to a evening class. Let me know if that works best for you.

"I have really been enjoying your Exploring the Power of Habit series. I’ll miss it when it’s over - you should consider extending it!! Speaking for myself, I have never been more interested in checking out AT ."- Susan R. |
Come experience what it could be like
to have ease and pleasure in your daily activities! "Robbin, What a wonderful series of classes in Alexander Technique! During the course I enjoyed practicing the techniques daily. What I did not realize during the class was that doing an 8-week program meant that I had time to integrate the new perception and behaviors into my life. Two months after the course, the techniques continue to be part of my awareness of movement and posture during work, play and rest. My perception of my body and my movement through the world has changed. Thank you." – Aileen R., London |

See a short video of Robbin teaching an Alexander Technique Workshop for Contra Dancers and Musicians at the Atlanta CCD Fall Dance Weekend in 2011. These videos, while incomplete, will give you a sense of what it is like to be in a class with Robbin. Link to the second video from the same workshop. Here's the third installment, from 2013 - Robbin's workshop is so popular that she was invited back 3 years in a row!
